Quaker Life

Our Quaker heritage helps guide and direct all we do.
The foundation of our school is the Quaker belief that there is “that of God” in everyone.  All aspects of our program touch on this principle.

At Gwynedd Friends School, we believe it is important to teach children that our actions impact others around us. Being mindful of how we live our lives helps us to become responsible citizens of the world. Quakers believe that there are essential "testimonies" which guide our actions. One way to understand these testimonies is to use the following acronym: S.P.I.C.E.S

Simplicity- We celebrate acts of kindness and generosity.

Peace - We create an environment of working together.

Integrity - We deal honestly and respectfully with others.

Community - We care for others in the community.

Equality- We respect different people and different ideas.

Stewardship - We protect and care for the earth.

Our teachers model these actions in the classroom throughout the year. We also explore each testimony in depth by highlighting one each month through the school year. Each teacher plans developmentally appropriate activities for the class and keeps parents up to date on how the testimonies are being presented.

Each week the children gather in the Gwynedd Meeting House to participate in Meeting for Worship. This worship time is guided by an experienced member of the Gwynedd Friends community and includes a story, quiet reflection and time for the children to share their thoughts.
