Children come to Gwynedd Friends with natural curiosity and wonder about the world around them.  In Kindergarten, we continue to develop each child's sense of wonder and love of learning.  Kindergarteners bring varied strengths and learning styles.   At Gwynedd Friends, we nurture and develop these styles.

We begin more structured math and reading lessons at this age.  Our low  student -teacher ratio (1:7) and flexible schedules help support each child's needs.   Children learn reading and writing skills in small and whole group settings.  Decoding and sight words are taught to help children gain meaning from text.  Leveled books are introduced as children begin to read independently.

Using math activities with concrete materials, children develop an understanding of and gain insight into mathematical patterns.. Challenging math experiences enable children to internalize concepts within the contents of real everyday experiences.

Equally important to math and reading skills, our children develop cultural awareness, social skills, self-exploration and self-confidence. In both structured and unstructured settings, We encourage  children to share thoughts, ideas and collaborate creatively with others.
